Swanton Morley Bowls Local Derby

The annual village bowls local derby took place on the evening of Friday 18th June 2010 between the Swanton
Morley Bowls Club and the Swanton Morley Angel Bowls Club. The match was played at the Swanton Morley Angel
Bowls Club green adjacent to the Angel Public House on a somewhat chilly evening with the match going Swanton
Morley Bowls Club's way and the 'Queenie Cup' trophy changing hands. The picture is of the trophy being
presented to the Swanton Morley Bowls Club Captain by Mrs Queenie Wood the trophy sponsor.
Captain's Log
The Angel Bowls Club has started the season in a fine way with a home win over a team from Wymondham Priory
in a friendly challenge match. A good opening season game was concluded with refreshments in the pub and after
match analysis! A new season has prompted some new members to join us, so we welcome them aboard and wish
them all the enjoyment the game provides. As the season has progressed we have had a mixed batch of results
so far in both the Elmham, and Dereham leagues. A thorough beating was received at the hands of Aldiss Park
in the knock out cup competition, but we have to say on good authority we don't like cleaning silver ware!
Again we have been fortunate that most games have taken place as scheduled, but the cold spring weather has
affected the enjoyment factor. Our thanks go to Les Wood, and Brian Walker for the work they put in to ensure
a supurb playing surface is available for the home games. As we head into June we have a depleated side with
key players away on holiday, however our thanks go to some of the younger members, and new members to make
up the deficit. As always our thanks are extended to the Angel pub and staff for providing the apres match
refreshments and facilities for the home games, and very much appreciated by our visitors. The arrival of the
new team shirts and sweaters at least now gives us the moral advantage over the opposition, win or loose!!
It also promotes us, the pub and the village of Swanton Morley, which of course we are happy to do.
